Home Med Cabinet v2.3: Spain Joins the Medicine Catalog

Home Med Cabinet now covers Spanish medicines. Search the official AEMPS catalog by name or national code, and add anything from it to your cabinet in a couple of taps.

v2.3.0August 19, 2026

Home Med Cabinet is now available with a Spanish medicine catalog. If you live in Spain, you no longer have to type medication names by hand and hope you spelled them right — the app looks them up in the official national registry.

Spain, via CIMA

The catalog comes from CIMA (Centro de Información online de Medicamentos), the online medicines database run by the Spanish Agency for Medicines and Medical Devices (AEMPS) under the Ministry of Health.

CIMA is the same registry pharmacists and doctors in Spain consult. It covers medicines currently authorized in the country, along with those that have been suspended or revoked — so a medicine that's been pulled from the market doesn't quietly disappear from your search results.

Search by medicine name or by national code. When you pick a result, the app fills in what it knows from the registry:

  • Registration number and medicine name
  • Active ingredients
  • Pharmaceutical form and dosage
  • Route of administration
  • ATC classification code
  • Marketing authorization holder and authorization status

The data is refreshed from CIMA's public REST API, so newly authorized medicines show up without waiting for an app update.

Third country in the catalog

Spain joins the two catalogs already in the app:

  • Switzerland — the Article-Refdatabase from Refdata, searchable by barcode or name
  • France — the BDPM public medicines database from ANSM
  • Spain — CIMA, from AEMPS

Each catalog is built on the country's official public registry rather than a scraped or resold dataset. Every source, what it provides, and the terms we use it under are documented on our Data Sources page.

One practical note: Spanish results are found by name or national code. Barcode scanning still works everywhere for anything already in your cabinet, but the Swiss catalog is the one with barcode-level coverage today.

Everything else in v2.3

  • AddedSpanish medicine catalog from CIMA (AEMPS). Search by medicine name or national code.
  • AddedRegistration number, active ingredients, form, dosage, route, ATC code, and authorization status pulled in automatically for Spanish medicines.
  • ImprovedCatalog data for Spain refreshes from CIMA's public API, so new authorizations appear without an app update.

What's next

More countries are on the list — the pattern is the same each time: find the official national registry, confirm its terms allow reuse, document it publicly, then build the catalog on top.

If your country's medicines aren't covered yet and you'd like them to be, tell us. Which registry we tackle next is largely driven by what people ask for.
